Untimely Teachers: Recovering Postmodernism’s Anachronic Pedagogies Edited by Wouter Van Acker & Steven Lauritano
13264826.2024.2371672
The untimely “postmoderns” figuring in this issue restore the convolutions that unmake the familiar story of the dialectical opposition to modernism. The papers examine unforeseen ways of reading antiquated designs and outmoded teachers, of interpolating time, and as such, challenging the prevailing theorisations of postmodern time consciousness. Simultaneously, these experiments in untimely teaching appear to be a productive site for moving beyond the critiques of pastiche aesthetics and the postmodern use of history as a kit of parts, or signs. The educators discussed—Charles Moore, René Furer, Dalibor Vesely, Marc Van de Steen, among others—with varying degrees of self-awareness, each responded to the uncertainty of their pedagogical contexts by embracing the disruptive potential of untimely ideas, hoping to counter present conditions, for the benefit of a time to come.
